August 15, 2016

Not an auspicious beginning.  It seems Air Canada oversold the seats on our aircraft.  Although we were eventually able to board, our luggage not so much.  Arrived in Halifax and were assured that the bags would be on the next flight, arriving some 2 hours later.  And, the good folks at AC insisted, they would deliver the bags as soon as they arrived.  They arrived 24 hours later.

Adding to this, Karen experienced a return of her vertigo this afternoon, and ended up spending the rest of the afternoon in bed trying to sleep off the affliction.

Notwithstanding these challenges, it was great to see Chris and Anneke again, and Pat, Ed and Tien joined us for a few libations.  Dined on delicious fish burgers, but made it an early night.

August 23, 2016

Got an early start today, which was a good thing because it took two attempts to find our way out of Truro and onto the highway heading west to Annapolis Royal.  We arrived there after witnessing some of the dramatic seascapes created by the low tide.  All of the rivers draining into the back near Truro have a rise and fall with the tides.  When the tide goes out, it leaves behind drained river beds covered in thick, gooey reddish brown muck.

We explored Annapolis Royal and found a place to stay just out of town.  The Admiral Inn was a great place to unwind after a days' drive.  We went into town for dinner at the East Bistro, where of course we dined on more seafood.

Got some great pics today, and when I eventually figure out how to do it, I will add them to these posts.

After a very hectic week with the relies, Karen and I headed off to Liverpool, where we had lunch with Chris and Henry.  Paul is parking the Unit there until he and Darlene move there in October.  Chris and Henry have a gorgeous place right on the ocean.  It's a classic "down east" home; the view is superb!  Chris made us a great lunch, and then we drove Paul to the airport for his trip home.

Karen and I continued on to Truro, where we spent the night.

Today was Aunti Lena's 89th birthday.  We headed over to Pat and Ed's and arrived there around 2 pm.  Anneke made Bami Goreng and I organized some chicken sate.  Auntie Lena was "Queen for a Day", and seemed to thoroughly enjoy the attention.  After dinner, Ed made a fire, and we sat around that enjoying a fine evening, with some of Ed's excellent scotch to put a glowing finish on the day.

Paul had driven the Unit over the to RV park across the highway for Pat and Ed's, and stayed there the night.

A great day all around!

August 20, 2016

Chris left early this morning to spend the night at his cottage with his sister, who'd been there all week.  Karen and Anneke went for a walk, and arrived back in the early stages of heat exhaustion!

In the early afternoon, Karen and I and Anneke headed into town and explored the waterfront.  What an amazing place.  Just oozing atmosphere.  All kinds of restaurants, most offering a wealth of seafood options.  We strolled over to Pier 21, where Scotia Bank has a facility to help people dig up their immigrants' roots.  We found info on the Groote Beer, the ship we came to Canada on in June, 1954.  We were on the June 3rd sailing, stopping in Rotterdam, The Hague, Southhampton and then over to Halifax, Quebec City and Montreal.  They even printed up the material for us.

We had dinner at Salty's, which is a great seafood place right on the waterfront.  I had the fried clams, which arrived limp and cold.  Sent that back for a fresh order, which was done the way it should be.  Very yummy!

Took it easy today, and just enjoyed the views from Chris and Anneke's front deck.  We picked a great day for doing nothing; the weather was bright, sunny and warm.

That evening we had dinner at Tieneke's place.  She treated us to some awesome pulled pork on buns for dinner.

The Birthday day!  Karen and Pat both shared birthdays today.

We started off with a drive down the coast to Liverpool, where bro Paul had just bought their new place.  Paul drove down in "the Unit", and we met him at the house on Medway cover.  Absolutely gorgeous place, with a view to die for!

That evening, we celebrated the birthdays in style, at the Seaside Shanty, in Chester Basin.  Unfortunately I can't remember what we ordered, which is why one should not try to keep a blog unless you make an entry every day... Note to self!
